George Schlagintweit is the Manager of National Projects for Central & Arctic Region of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans’ Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS). In this capacity, George’s primary objective is to oversee projects identified to address key gaps in hydrography in both the Canadian portion of the Great Lakes and all of Canada’s Arctic. Canada’s Oceans Protection Plan (OPP) is the primary funding source for this work. George has worked for the CHS for 34 years, starting as Junior Hydrographer and working his way up to Hydrographer-in-Charge and then Manager. He holds a Survey Technology diploma from British Columbia Institute of Technology and a Canada Lands Surveyor Commission.
In his talk, George will discuss both the status of Arctic Hydrography and how recent investments as a result of OPP and other initiatives will accelerate CHS’ ability to meet growing demands for modernized navigational products in the Canadian Arctic.
