John Parker is the Director of the Canadian Ice Services (CIS), part of the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC). John has been Director since 2016 and has his origins in operational meteorology, starting with the MSC in 1987. He has worked for many of the programs within the MSC over his career, but since 2008 has been focused on marine forecasting services and maritime safety aspects of those services. John sits as vice Chair and the Canadian representation on the World Meteorological Organization’s maritime safety committee referred to as the World-Wide MetOcean Information and Warning Service. He is also engaged with the International Ice Charting Working Group as well as a co-Director with the North American Ice Service partnership…an agreement of cooperation and co-production with the US National Ice Center and International Ice Patrol.
